- Restaurant Manager
By Kanilea Grade 6
Sweeping, vacuuming, interviewing possible employees, cooking, and serving. These are just a few of the duties of a restaurant manager. In all restaurants everyone has a role. For example, a cook’s main job is to…well, to cook! A waiter/waitress is responsible for seating and serving customers. Some of you may still be wondering, what do restaurant managers do? “Yeah, what do they do?” Restaurant managers must work really hard. Take my dad, manager of the Cattle Company, for example, he barely getsto be with his family, he comes home late, and sometimes he doesn’t get to celebrate holidays with us. “How do I become one?” You could go to college and get a hospitality management degree, or you can start working your way up the ladder by starting in an entry level restaurant position. In order to be a restaurant manager, you should have strong communication skills, be a problem solver, have a strong attention to detail, and be able to work under pressure. Be prepared, it’s a lot of work. Everyday you would have to do a little bit of everything. “Work the bubble,” as my dad would say. Starting first thing in the morning, you would have to check all the sales and reports of the previous day, generate it to give it to the corporate office. Next you need to count the safe, issue banks to the bartender, and check and answer emails. Then it is time to prepare for the day service. At the closing of the day you do the exact opposite! Yes, restaurant managers are responsible for many things, but their most important job is to be a leader.
