Being an elevator mechanic is hard work but it can be fun to work with your hands and problem solve. My dad works for Mitsubishi as an elevator mechanic. He works in the service department. As a part of his daily duties, he must service check the buildings and check for any issues. If there are no issues he will do routine maintenance. If an elevator or escalator is broken he must fix it before it creates a bigger problem.

In order to be an elevator mechanic, you must have a highschool diploma. Once you apply and get hired, you will have to start work and pass your probationary period. The union will then provide you with a four year long apprenticeship (that is where you work alongside experienced mechanics).

The qualities needed to succeed at this profession are, first you must need to know how to work with your hands, next you must be a problem solver, third of all you have to be a problem solver, and lastly you can not be scared of heights because in this job you will have to work at dangerously high levels.
